Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Versus Ultrasound Therapy on Lateral Epicondylitis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials

Lateral epicondylitis—commonly known as tennis elbow—remains a challenging condition with multiple therapeutic options. In this OE Original, a systematic review and meta-analysis evaluates the comparative effectiveness of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) versus ultrasound therapy across seven randomized controlled trials. Key outcomes such as pain reduction, grip strength, and functional recovery are explored over short- and long-term follow-up. With varying protocols, incomplete safety data, and concerns about bias, the evidence base remains complex—raising important questions about best practices in managing this common musculoskeletal disorder.
