Negative Pressure Wound Therapy Did Not Reduce Infection Rate for Soft Tissue Sarcoma .
Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been widely adopted to reduce surgical site complications, yet new findings suggest it may not lower infection risk following soft tissue sarcoma resection. In a recent analysis, patients who received NPWT after tumor excision did not experience a significant reduction in postoperative infection compared with those managed with standard wound closure techniques. Soft tissue sarcoma procedures often involve extensive resections and complex wound environments, which may limit the ability of NPWT alone to prevent infection. The findings suggest that while NPWT may still offer benefits in wound management or fluid control, it should not be relied upon as a primary strategy for infection prevention in this setting, emphasizing the need for comprehensive perioperative infection control strategies.
