MPFL Reconstruction With Allograft May Have Clinically Worse Outcomes vs. Autograft .
Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction using allograft may result in clinically worse outcomes compared with autograft, according to recent findings. Patients treated with autograft tissue demonstrated superior functional outcomes and potentially lower failure or recurrent instability rates than those receiving allografts. While allografts offer advantages such as avoiding donor-site morbidity and reducing operative time, they may have limitations related to biologic incorporation and graft strength. These results highlight the importance of graft selection in patellar instability surgery, suggesting that autograft may provide more reliable outcomes in appropriately selected patients undergoing MPFL reconstruction.
