Compact Robotics Could Reshape the Economics of Joint Replacement .
The next phase of orthopaedic robotics may be smaller rather than more sophisticated. MD+DI examines how handheld systems from Stryker, Smith+Nephew and THINK Surgical are targeting surgeons and ambulatory surgery centers for whom large robotic platforms may be difficult to justify economically. With roughly 80% of orthopaedic surgeons reportedly not yet using robotics, lower capital costs, smaller footprints and simpler workflows could become major adoption drivers as joint replacement increasingly shifts toward outpatient care.
