2016 World Congress on Osteoporosis, Osteoarthritis and Musculoskeletal Diseases: Superior gains in bone mineral density and estimated strength at the hip for romosozumab compared with teriparatide in women with postmenopausal osteoporosis transitioning from bisphosphonate therapy

OE Journal. 2016;4(9):20436 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis who had been administered oral bisphosphonate therapy for 3 years prior were randomized in a phase 3 clinical trial to subcutaneous romosozumab or subcutaneous teriparatide. The purpose of this study was to compare the change in bone mineral density after 1 year of treatment between the two groups. Reported results demonstrated a significantly greater increase in total hip and lumbar spine BMD in the romosozumab group compared to the teriparatide group.
