Volar plating for distal radius fractures shows better results than dorsal nail fixation .
Dorsally displaced extra-articular distal radius fractures fixation: Dorsal IM nailing versus volar plating. A randomized controlled trial
Orthop Traumatol Surg Res. 2011 Sep;97(5):471-8. doi: 10.1016/j.otsr.2010.11.011. Epub 2011 Jun 1131 elderly patients were randomized to compare two different fixation techniques for the treatment of distal radius fractures. Patients received either dorsal nail fixation or locked volar plate fixation and were followed up at 6 months. The assessment revealed that volar plate fixation led to better results regarding reduction quality and objective functional scores in comparison to dorsal nail fixation for distal radius fractures.
