Plating versus intramedullary pin or conservative treatment for midshaft fracture of clavicle: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

Epub 2011 Apr 9Four randomized and quasi-randomized controlled trials (involving 305 clavicular fractures) were identified in this meta-analysis to assess whether intramedullary pinning or conservative treatment led to similar outcomes as plating for mid-clavicular fractures. The available evidence suggested that there were no differences in treatment effects between plating and intramedullary pinning; however, plating was associated with more side effects. When compared to conservative treatment, plating displayed superior clinical and functional outcomes.
