Unipolar hemiarthroplasty versus bipolar hemiarthroplasty in the most elderly patients with displaced femoral neck fractures: A randomised, controlled trial
Int Orthop; 2011; 35(11): 1703-1711120 patients with acute displaced fractures of the femoral neck were randomized to receive either unipolar or bipolar hemiarthroplasty in order to determine impact of each procedure on clinical and functional outcome. The results of 4 and 12 month follow-up indicated that there was a trend towards better health related quality of life in the bipolar group. It was also found that patients in the bipolar group displayed significantly less acetabular erosion at 12 month follow up.
