OE Journal. 2013;1(12):266 Acad Emerg Med. 2013 Jun;20(6):584-91. doi: 10.1111/acem.1215436 elderly hip fracture patients were randomized to be treated with ultra-sound (US) guided three-in-one femoral nerve block (FNB) plus morphine or standard care consisting of a placebo injection and morphine. The results aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of femoral nerve blocks in pain control and reduction of morphine consumption over a 4 hour period. At study completion, US-guided FNB reduced pain intensity and intravenous morphine use compared to the placebo group, with a similar rate of adverse events.
