Patellar resurfacing versus nonresurfacing in total knee arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials
Int Orthop. 2013 Jun;37(6):1075-83. doi: 10.1007/s00264-013-1866-9. Epub 2013 Mar 2614 trials (1,725 knees) were evaluated in this meta-analysis to compare knee pain, function, and reoperation rates after total knee arthroplasty, with or without patellar resurfacing. The analysis indicated that patellar resurfacing reduced the rate of operation, but displayed similar anterior knee pain scores as the non-resurfacing patients. Interestingly, the Knee Society scores for resurfacing knees appeared to be superior at a longer follow up of 5 years.
