Efficacy of Transcranial Direct Current Stimulation on Pain Intensity and Functionality in Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis.
Am J Phys Med Rehabil . 2024 May 1;103(5):428-438.This systematic review and meta-analysis included 10 studies with 634 patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis comparing transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) with sham stimulation or other interventions. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain intensity, functionality, pressure pain threshold, and safety. Pooled results demonstrated significant improvement in pain relief and functionality. Improvements in pressure pain threshold were also observed. The findings suggest that tDCS is a safe and effective intervention for pain and functionality in knee osteoarthritis patients.
