Effect of tranexamic acid on shoulder surgery: an updated meta-analysis of randomized studies.

This systematic review and meta-analysis included 14 randomized controlled trials involving 1131 patients undergoing shoulder surgery to evaluate the effectiveness of tranexamic acid (TXA) versus placebo. Outcomes of interest included total blood loss, drain output, hemoglobin changes, operative time, and presence of hematoma. The pooled results indicated significant reductions in blood loss, operative time, and improved postoperative pain scores in the TXA group. These findings suggest that TXA is effective in reducing perioperative blood loss and improving other surgical outcomes in shoulder surgery, supporting its use as a beneficial intervention in these procedures.
