Traditional Chinese Exercises on Pain & Disability In Patients With Lumbar Disc Herniation .
Traditional Chinese exercises on pain and disability in middle-aged and elderly patients with lumbar disc herniation: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Front Med (Lausanne) . 2023 Nov 8:10:1265040.Twenty-two randomized controlled trials, including 1931 patients with lumbar disc herniation (LDH), were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing traditional Chinese exercises (TCEs) such as Baduanjin, Yijinjing, Taichi, and Wuqinxi against conventional treatments. Pooled outcomes of interest included the visual analog scale (VAS) score, Japanese Orthopedic Association (JOA) score, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), response rate (RR), 36-Item Short Form Survey (SF-36), and Modified Roland-Morris Disability Questionnaire (MRMQ). The results indicated significant improvements in VAS, JOA, RR, ODI, and MRMQ scores for patients practicing TCEs. These findings suggest that TCEs could be beneficial in managing pain and disability in LDH, though further high-quality trials are needed to confirm these results.
