Topical administration of tranexamic acid in elderly patients undergoing short femoral nailing for intertrochanteric fracture: A randomised controlled trial
Injury. 2022 Feb;53(2):603-609.One hundred and twenty one patients undergoing short intramedullary nailing for an intertrochanteric hip fracture were randomized to receive intraoperative topical tranexamic acid (TXA, n=61) or normal saline (n=60). The primary outcomes of interest were blood loss, drain output, transfusion rates and postoperative complications. There was no significant differences in total blood loss, drain output, blood transfusions or perioperative complications between the two groups.
