OE Journal. 2022;10(12):23 J Psychopharmacol. 2011 11-Apr;():. 10.1177/0269881110367445What this means for my practice?
No significant difference is seen in physiological or psychological tolerance between 1.5 mg and 2 mg of intravenous psilocybin. This study is limited by its small sample size and non-randomized methodology, however, the purpose of the study was simply meant as a proof-of-concept of tolerability for a larger trial.
Study Summary
Nine healthy, hallucinogen-experienced participants received a dose of intravenous psilocybin while in a mock MRI environment in order to determine tolerability. Three patients received an intravenous 1.5 mg dose of psilocybin and six patients received an intravenous 2 mg dose. A number of drug effects were rated on a 0-10 numeric rating scale in order to determine tolerability, as well as the 5-Dimension Altered States of Consciousness Rating Scale (5-D ASC). No significant difference was seen between doses on any outcome measures, and the psilocybin was well tolerated in the mock MRI environment.
