TKA: Tranexamic acid reduces blood loss without increasing risk of DVT .
Risk of deep venous thrombosis in drain clamping with tranexamic acid and carbazochrome sodium sulfonate hydrate in total knee arthroplasty
J Arthroplasty. 2012 Jan;27(1):105-8. Epub 2011 Mar 23100 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were randomized to undergo drainage-clamping with either tranexamic acid and carbazovhrome sodium sulfonate hydrate, or saline control to assess the risk associated with post-operative hemostasis. The post-operative drained blood was significantly reduced in the intervention group,when compared to the controls. This finding was accompanied with a similar occurrence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), indicating that the intervention group was at a similar risk of DVT complication while reducing blood loss.
