OE Journal. 2013;1(7):2 Pain Med. 2012 Jul;13(7):937-47. doi: 10.1111/j.1526-4637.2012.01409.x. Epub 2012 Jun 862 subjects undergoing total knee replacement were randomized to compare pain and functional outcomes between two different analgesics treatment methods. Patients received epidural anesthesia followed by either oral analgesics or continuous femoral nerve analgesia (CFA). Patients who received CFA for 24 hours displayed lower pain scores and reduced opioid use during hospitalization, and also had greater knee flexion when assessed at 1, 6, and 12 months.
