Effects of Thrombin-Based Hemostatic Agent in Total Knee Arthroplasty: Meta-Analysis.

Eight randomized controlled trials (904 patients) comparing a thrombin-based hemostatic agent, Floseal, against control for total knee arthroplasty (TKA) were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included a decrease in hemoglobin, drainage volume, total blood loss, and the incidence of allogeneic blood transfusion. The decrease in hemoglobin and the incidence of allogenic blood transfusion were significantly better in the Floseal group compared to the control. All other outcomes were similar between the two groups.
