Comparison of thoracolumbosacral orthosis and no orthosis for the treatment of thoracolumbar burst fractures: interim analysis of a multicenter randomized clinical equivalence trial

This study randomized 72 patients with thoracolumbar burst fractures to be treated with or without thoracolumbosacral orthosis (TLSO) to compare their functional outcomes. The one year follow-up revealed that there were no significant differences between both groups regarding disability, pain, function, health-related quality of life, sagittal alignment, length of hospital stay, or complications. However, as the findings of this study are preliminary, final outcome measures (at two years) remains to be determined.
