Sutures versus staples for the management of surgical wounds: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Am Surg. 2011 Sep;77(9):1206-2120 studies (2111 patients) were identified in this meta-analysis to compare sutures and staples as methods of surgical wound closure. The results suggested that staples led to fewer wound infections when compared to sutures; however, a limited number of studies indicated that staples were associated with more pain. Furthermore, the majority of the studies observed no significant differences regarding cosmetic evaluations and patient satisfaction between these differing techniques.
