Therapeutic potential of ayahuasca in grief: a prospective, observational study

Ayahuasca shows benefits in improving feelings of grief as well as quality of life in patients bereaving the loss of a loved one. Future studies with larger sample sizes and control groups are warranted.
Study Summary
A bereaved group of 50 individuals attending an ayahuasca center were recruited and followed for 1 year in this prospective case series. Patients completed the Texas Revised Inventory of Grief, Symptom Assessment-45 Questionnaire, World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF, Acceptance and Action Questionnaire, EQ-Decentering, and Bereavement adjustment questionnaire. A significant improvement was seen in all outcomes from 15 weeks through 1 year following the retreat.
