High Impact
This study has been identified as potentially high impact. OE's AI-driven High Impact metric estimates the influence a paper is likely to have by integrating signals from both the journal in which it is published and the scientific content of the article itself. Developed using state-of-the-art natural language processing, the OE High Impact model more accurately predicts a study's future citation performance than journal impact factor alone. This enables earlier recognition of clinically meaningful research and helps readers focus on articles most likely to shape future practice.

Efficacy and safety of balloon kyphoplasty compared with non-surgical care for vertebral compression fracture (FREE): A randomised controlled trial

Lancet. 2009 Mar 21;373:1016-24. Epub 2009 Feb 24

300 patients with one to three vertebral fractures were randomized to receive balloon kyphoplasty or non-surgical treatment to assess the efficacy and safety of kyphoplasty. There were significant improvements in quality of life, pain, and function measures at one month follow-up in the kyphoplasty group when compared to the non-surgical group. However, these differences diminished over time and were no longer significant at a 1 year follow-up.
