The effects of LSD-25 on creativity and tolerance to regression

Overall, the findings suggest that using LSD-25 to enhance creative ability is not likely to be successful. The most suggestive finding was that LSD-25 may increase accessibility of remote or unique ideas to conscious awareness. The results are limited by the use of all males, the lack of comparing doses and the lack of valid tests to assess creativity.

Thirty-one healthy subjects underwent a randomized, placebo-controlled study to test the effects of LSD-25 on aspects of creativity. A variety of tests were used including the Modified Word Association Test (WAT). Projective testing was used to predict whether subjects would show improvement under LSD-25. The placebo subjects had similar performances to subjects who were predicted not to improve under LSD-25. Most comparisons were in the predicted direction, but failed to reach statistical significance. Srug subjects predicted to improve produced more unique responses on the WAT.
