The results of this trial showed no significant differences between the two groups. The results were limited by not having a placebo-controlled group and the formulations of the treatments were not similar, therefore treatment assignment was not adequately concealed. Future trials should consider incorporating a placebo arm and adequately concealing the different treatment arms.

Two hundred patients with symptomatic osteoarthritis of the knee were randomized to receive either Thai medicinal plant-4 (TMP-4) cream (n=100) or diclofenac gel (n=99). Outcomes that were assessed in this trial were Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores for knee pain and stiffness, 10-step stair climb test, timed up and go, and Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) at 2 and 4 weeks. The results of this trial found no significant differences between the two treatment groups in pain scores and knee function.
