Water-Based Treadmill Training for ACL Reconstruction Rehabilitation .
Effect of water-based walking exercise on rehabilitation of patients following ACL reconstruction: a prospective, randomised, single-blind clinical trial
Physiotherapy . 2022 Jun;115:18-26.Sixty patients that underwent anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction were randomized to receive either water-based treadmill walking training (n=31) or land-based treadmill walking training (n=29). The primary outcome of this trial was to assess the maximal ratio of peak torque to body weight (PT/BW) of the hamstrings and quadriceps after 3 weeks. Other outcomes such as passive position sense, static balance, stability, and knee function were evaluated. The results of this trial showed improvements in extensor strength, proprioception, and knee function in the water-based treadmill exercise group when compared to the land-based walking training.
