THA: Posterior soft tissue repair is not effective in decreasing capsular distension .
Dynamics of hip joint effusion after posterior soft tissue repair in total hip arthroplasty
Int Orthop. 2006 Aug;30(4):233-6. Epub 2006 Mar 733 patients (27 completed the 12month follow-up) with hip osteoarthritis were randomized to receive total hip arthroplasty (THA) with or without posterior soft tissue repair. At 6 months, the patients who received posterior soft tissue repair were found to have greater capsular distension in the prosthetic hip than those who did not receive it. By 12 months, there was no difference between the two groups in volume of intraarticular fluid/synovial oedema.
