Sit-to-stand training for self-care and mobility in children with cerebral palsy: a randomized controlled trial.

Online ahead of print.Thirty-eight children with cerebral palsy were randomized to receive 6 weeks of routine therapy plus sit-to-stand training (n=19) or control (hot-pack plus stretching; n=19). The outcomes of interest included the Functional Independence Measure for Children (WeeFIM), self-care, mobility, and total scores, the Five Times Sit-to-Stand Test (FTSST), the Modified Caregiver Strain Index (MCSI), compliance, and adverse events. Outcomes were assessed at 7 weeks follow up. Results revealed no clinically significant differences in all clinical outcomes between the two groups; only the upper band of the 95% confidence interval for mobility scores and FTSST exceeded the minimal clinically important difference (MCID). Compliance was excellent in both groups, and no serious adverse events were reported.
