A pilot, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to assess the safety and efficacy of a novel Boswellia serrata extract in the management of osteoarthritis of the knee
Phytother Res. 2019 May;33(5):1457-1468. doi: 10.1002/ptr.633848 patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to daily oral supplementation with either Boswellia serrata extract or placebo. Patients were followed over 4 months of treatment for outcome related to pain and function. After 4 months, results demonstrated significantly greater improvement in the BSE group for the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index, visual analog pain scores, Patient's Global Assessment of pain, and 6-minute walk test distances.
