Reduced tissue-interface pressure and increased comfort on a newly developed soft-layered long spineboard
J Trauma. 2010 Mar;68(3):593-8.30 healthy volunteers participated in this cross-over RCT, where they were immobilized on either a soft layered spineboard, standard spinal board, or vacuum mattress. Following 15 minutes it was observed that soft-layered long spineboards reduced tissue-interface pressures, as well as the subject perceived discomfort compared to standard rigid long spineboards and vacuum mattresses.
