Care of abdominal skin in ankylosing spondylitis patients undergoing corrective spinal surgery.

Ninety patients with ankylosing spondylitis (AS) undergoing corrective spinal surgery were randomized to receive a comprehensive abdominal skin care routine (n=45) or routine perioperative care (n=45). The outcomes of interest were postoperative pain scores measured with the visual analogue scale (VAS) and size of abdominal tension blisters observed. The comprehensive skin care routine group demonstrated significantly lower VAS pain scores in the immediate postoperative period and reduced tension blister size.
