Single-tunnel and double-tunnel medial patellofemoral ligament reconstructions have similar clinical, radiological and functional results

Eighty patients with recurrent patellar dislocation/instability were randomized to receive a medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction using a single-tunnel technique (n=40) or a double-tunnel technique (n=40). The outcomes of interest included clinical scores (Kujala score, Lysholm score, Tegner score, International Knee Documentation Committee [IKDC] score), radiological measures (congruence angle, patellar tilt angle), and isokinetic muscle strength (flexion and extension at 60 and 180 degrees). Outcomes were assessed at 24 months post-operation. No significant differences in all outcomes were observed between the two groups (p>0.05 for all).
