Single dose intravenous tranexamic acid as effective as continuous infusion in primary total knee arthroplasty: a randomised clinical trial

106 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either a 30mg/kg bolus dose of tranexamic acid (TXA), or 10mg/kg dose TXA plus 2mg/kg/h continuous infusion postoperatively for 20 hours. The purpose of this study was to compare blood loss within the first week of surgery, as well as complications and clinical outcomes within the first year of surgery. The findings illustrated no significant differences between groups for any of the measured outcomes. Additionally, no venous thromboembolic events were noted in any patient of either group.
