A prospective comparative study of hip resurfacing arthroplasty and large-diameter head metal-on-metal total hip arthroplasty in younger patients-a minimum of five year follow-up

68 patients with hip pathology which required operative management were randomized to either hip resurfacing arthroplasty or large-head metal-on-metal total hip arthroplasty. Patients were assessed for postoperative outcome related to hip function and the incidence of complications at a minimum of 5 years after surgery. Mean final follow-up was over 7 years in both groups. Results related to Harris Hip Scores, UCLA Activity Scores, and Oxford Hip Scores did not significantly differ between groups at final follow-up. No cases of major complications were recorded in either group.
