Hyaluronan for knee osteoarthritis: an updated meta-analysis of trials with low risk of bias

Eight double-blind, placebo controlled randomized trials were included in this meta-analysis assessing efficacy outcomes of intra-articular hyaluronic acid injections in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis. Data on pain and functional outcome measures were extracted and pooled. Results demonstrated small but statistically significant differences between IAHA and IA placebo injections in both pain and functional outcome at 3 months. GRADE assessment indicated "moderate" quality of evidence related to both outcomes.
