Scapular stabilization exercise on pain and functional recovery in people with shoulder impingement syndrome: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Fourteen RCTs including 666 patients with shoulder impingement syndrome were included in comparing scapular stabilization exercises versus general exercise or control rehabilitation. Pooled outcomes of interest included pain scores, Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), and shoulder range of motion (ROM). Scapular stabilization combined with general exercise demonstrated reduced short-term pain, improved functional recovery, and improved shoulder abduction ROM, with no significant benefit observed for flexion ROM or when feedback was added. Overall, scapular stabilization exercises may provide modest improvements in pain and function, though evidence certainty remains low to very low.
