Does Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty Improve Outcomes of Adult Osteoarthritis Patients-A Systematic Review and Trial Sequential Meta-Analysis.
Epub Ahead of Print
Orthop Surg. 2025 01-Jun:. 10.1111/os.70007Study Summary
Twenty-five randomized controlled trials including 3156 patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) were included in this systematic review and trial sequential meta-analysis comparing robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) versus conventional TKA. Pooled outcomes of interest included range of motion (ROM), complication rates, operative duration, blood loss, Knee Society Score (KSS), the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis (WOMAC) score, Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) score, and radiographic alignment parameters. Overall, robotic-assisted TKA demonstrated similar functional and clinical outcomes compared with conventional TKA but resulted in significantly longer operative time, with modest improvements in radiographic alignment measures. These findings suggest robotic-assisted TKA improves precision of implant positioning but does not clearly translate into superior short-term functional outcomes.
