Efficacy and safety of ibuprofen in children with musculoskeletal injuries: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Five randomized controlled trials including 1034 children with musculoskeletal injuries were included in this meta-analysis comparing oral ibuprofen to other oral analgesics. The primary outcomes of interest included the change in Visual Analog Scale (VAS) pain scores, the proportion of patients requiring additional analgesia, and the proportion of patients achieving adequate analgesia. Secondary outcomes of interest included the risk of adverse events. Pooled results revealed significantly greater pain relief and achievement of adequate analgesia with oral ibuprofen compared to other analgesics 60-120 minutes post-medication. The proportion of patients requiring additional analgesia and the risk of adverse events were significantly in favour of the ibuprofen group.
