Rotator cuff tendinopathy: Pilot methodology for self-managed exercise vs physiotherapy .
Self-managed loaded exercise versus usual physiotherapy treatment for rotator cuff tendinopathy: a pilot randomised controlled trial
Physiotherapy. 2014 Mar;100(1):54-60. doi: 10.1016/j.physio.2013.06.001.24 patients with chronic rotator cuff disorders/tendinopathy were randomized to receive either a self-managed exercise programme, or usual physiotherapy. This pilot study was conducted to evaluate a new research methodology comparing the clinical efficacy between these treatments. The proportion of participants willing to be randomized was excellent, with no complications during the recruitment process. Results indicated excellent adherence rates (90% overall), minimal contamination between groups, and clinically significant changes in SPADI, with a clinically significant 95% confidence interval.
