Fixed versus rotating platform total knee arthroplasty: a prospective, randomized, single-blind study.

95 knees from 69 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were randomized to receive either a rotating or a fixed platform during their procedure. Functional clinical outcomes, such as the SF-12 and range of motion, were assessed postoperatively at a two-year follow-up. The results of the study indicate that the outcome and complication rates between the two groups were similar with the exception of stair-climbing scores, which favored the rotating platform group. This indicates that the rotating platform is at least as good as the fixed platform.
