Real Versus Sham-Based Neurodynamic Techniques in the Treatment of Cubital Tunnel Syndrome: A Randomized Placebo-Controlled Trial.

Ninety-one patients with mild to moderate CuTS were randomized to receive either real neurodynamic techniques (n=48) or sham therapy (n=43). The primary outcomes were nerve conduction studies and ultrasound imaging of the ulnar nerve (cross-sectional area and shear modulus). Secondary outcomes included pain levels, two-point discrimination sensation, cutaneous sensory perception threshold, symptom-related disability (QDASH), neuropathic pain (S-LANSS), and perceived improvement (GROC). Outcomes were assessed at baseline and after two weeks of treatment (10 sessions). Overall, the results revealed significant intra-group improvements in all outcomes for the neurodynamic group, while the sham group showed minimal or no changes except in the shear modulus. The study concluded that neurodynamic techniques are effective in treating mild to moderate CuTS and may offer a beneficial conservative treatment option.
