Reaction time ("mental set") in control and chronic schizophrenic subjects and in postaddicts under placebo, LSD-25, morphine, pentobarbital and amphetamine
Psychopharmacologia. 1965 23-Feb;():. 10.1007/BF00402365Ten healthy subjects, ten postaddict patients and thirteen chronic schizophrenic patients underwent a study to assess the effects of LSD-25, morphine, pentobarbital, or amphetamine on auditory-manual reaction times (RTs). Mean RTs of schizophrenic patients were longer and the shortest RTs occurred at the 3.5 sec interval. There was less variance between irregular (varying interval duration) and regular procedures. In postaddicts, LSD-25 induced longer RTs on irregular procedures, reducing the difference between the two procedures. At a higher dose, LSD-25 induced longer RTs for both irregular and regular procedures and induced a trend for shortest RTs at the 3.5 sec interval.
