Retroperitoneal packing or angioembolization for haemorrhage control of pelvic fractures-Quasi-randomized clinical trial of 56 haemodynamically unstable patients with Injury Severity Score ≥33

56 haemodynamically unstable patients with pelvic fractures were quasi-randomized (dependent on the availability of angioembolization team) to either retroperitoneal pelvic packing or angioembolization. The purpose of this study was to determine whether pelvic packing is a more effective method to mitigate uncontrollable haemorrhage compared to angioembolization. Findings indicated that the mortality rates, the amount of packed red blood cell units transfused, the postoperative complication rate, and the number of days in the intensive care unit were comparable between both groups. Operative time and admission to treatment time were significantly greater in the angioembolization group compared to the pelvic packing group.
