Twenty healthy subjects underwent a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, cross-over design study to test the effects of psilocybin on event-related evoked potentials (ERPs) of P300 and mismatch negativity (MMN). The subjects received 0.26 mg/kg of psilocybin and ERPs were measured (using EEG) at the peak of intoxication. Psilocybin decreased P300 amplitude and N100 amplitude but did not affect the MMN. The effect of psilocybin on P300 was correlated with the intensity of the psychedelic state. There was a negative correlation between the P300 and MMN amplitude.
