No correlation between pre-operative QPS scores and knee kinematics in the operated knee was found in patients who received ACL reconstruction, with or without LET. This suggests that post-operative knee kinematics are determined by other factors outside of pre-operative rotational stability. This study was limited by the small sample size which may have been underpowered for the assessment of correlation.

20 patients randomized to receive an ACL reconstruction alone or with a concomitant lateral extraarticular tenodesis (LET) procedure were assessed for pre-operative quantitative pivot shift (QPS) and post-operative knee kinematics. The correlation between QPS and knee kinematics was calculated to assess the potential of QPS for informing treatment decision-making, and whether an ACL reconstruction should be accompanied by a concomitant LET. The results of this study found that while QPS was associated with knee kinematics in the healthy limb at 12 months, no correlation was observed between pre-operative QPS and knee kinematics in the operated knee, in both groups. This suggests that post-ACL reconstruction knee kinematics are likely influenced by other factors.
