Platelet-rich plasma versus corticosteroid: a randomized controlled trial on tennis elbow patients resistant to nonsurgical treatments.
Ann Med Surg (Lond). 2023 Aug 3;85(9):4385-4388.30 patients with lateral epicondylitis unresponsive to conservative treatment were randomized to receive an injection of corticosteroid (n=15) or platelet-rich plasma (PRP; n=15). The primary outcomes of interest were pain measured on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and the Disability of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) score. Outcomes were measured 1 month after injection. The PRP group demonstrated significantly better improvement in both VAS pain scores and DASH scores compared to the corticosteroid group. Future studies with larger sample sizes, longer follow-up, and more comprehensive clinical assessments are required to confirm the results of this study.
