Efficacy of platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin in arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

10 randomized controlled trials (628 patients) comparing platelet-rich plasma (PRP) or platelet-rich-fibrin (PRF) against control for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The primary outcome of interest was the incidence of retear and Constant-Murley Scores (CMS). Secondary outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) score, Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) score, and the University of California-Los Angeles (UCLA) shoulder score. The incidence of retear rate was significantly lower in the PRP group compared to the control. Constant scores favored the PRP group when compared to the control. UCLA scores favored the PRP group when compared to the control. CMS scores were significantly better in the BRF group compared to the control. All other outcomes and comparisons were similar.
