Tibial Fracture - Platelet-Rich Plasma and Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (T-PAC): A Randomized Controlled Feasibility Study
Forty-five patients with unilateral closed tibial diaphyseal fractures were randomized to receive either platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC) with standard care or standard care alone. Primary outcomes of interest were time to painless weight bearing, radiological union (2, 8, 12, 16, 20, 26, and 39 weeks), and patient-reported outcome measures (0, 12, 26, and 39 weeks). Radiological Union Score in Tibial Fracture (RUST) scores were significantly better in the BMAC group at 8, 12, and 16 weeks. Lower Extremity Functional Scale (LEFS) scores were also better in the BMAC group at 12, 26, and 39 weeks.
