OE Journal. 2013;1(11):128 Foot Ankle Int. 2007 Sep;28(9):984-9064 adult patients with plantar fasciitis (for atleast 6 weeks) were randomized to either receive an autologous blood injection or a corticosteroid injection. The results indicate that both groups demonstrated a reduction in pain and tenderness over the 6 month period, though patients who received the corticosteroid injection showed a quicker and greater improvement than the autologous blood group. As a result, the use of an autologous blood injection in patients with plantar fasciitis is considered a beneficial and safe second-line alternative method of treatment.
