Four hundred thirty-nine patients with femoral neck fractures (114 displaced and 325 nondisplaced) were randomized to receive either the Hansson Pinloc system (n=228) or the Hansson Pin System (n=211). The primary outcome was failure, defined as early displacement, nonunion, symptomatic avascular necrosis, or deep infection, assessed over two years. Secondary outcomes included revision surgery, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test results, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs: EQ-5D and WOMAC). Overall, the results revealed no significant differences between the two treatments in failure rates, secondary outcomes, or mortality. The study concluded that there was no clinical advantage of the Pinloc system over the Hansson Pin System for treating femoral neck fractures.
