Pinloc or Hansson Pins for Displaced and Nondisplaced Femoral Neck Fractures .
Pinloc or Hansson pins: a multicenter, randomized controlled study of 439 patients treated for femoral neck fractures.
OTA Int . 2023 Sep 22;6(4):e282.Four hundred thirty-nine patients with femoral neck fractures (114 displaced and 325 nondisplaced) were randomized to receive either the Hansson Pinloc system (n=228) or the Hansson Pin System (n=211). The primary outcome was failure, defined as early displacement, nonunion, symptomatic avascular necrosis, or deep infection, assessed over two years. Secondary outcomes included revision surgery, Timed Up and Go (TUG) test results, and patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs: EQ-5D and WOMAC). Overall, the results revealed no significant differences between the two treatments in failure rates, secondary outcomes, or mortality. The study concluded that there was no clinical advantage of the Pinloc system over the Hansson Pin System for treating femoral neck fractures.
